Connecting the Dots

Connecting the Dots

We’re all on a journey. Some of us have found our personal contentment, others are still searching. But wherever we are, there comes a time when we must make choices—some easy, some terrifying.

Some of us are brave enough to take the path less travelled. Others may feel pressure to conform to the expectations placed on us by society, family, and even our younger selves. But no matter the journey we’ve walked, we must trust the decisions we’ve made along the way.

Steve Jobs once said, "You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So, you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future."

I’ve found this to be not only true, but deeply comforting—especially when I’m being honest about who I am and what I value.

When we make life choices rooted in our core values and deepest loves, the path ahead may remain unclear, but it will always be ours. Who knows where it will lead? But one thing’s for sure: the people we meet and the experiences we gather along the way are there to shape us, to teach us, and to guide us—even when they don’t go to plan.

Sometimes, we follow a path that we thought would feel good, only to find that it doesn’t align with who we are. Recognising that and having the courage to change course is where the magic happens. That’s where growth begins. That’s where we discover new passions, new possibilities, and maybe even a new version of ourselves.

Yes, the road may involve rejection, disappointment, or unexpected turns. But it may also lead to a love of something new, a strength you didn’t know you had, or a sense of peace you didn’t think was possible.

You won’t know unless you courageously take that first step and trust the dots. They’ll connect in time when we stop to look back.
