Why I Started Tenacious
Just before I turned fifty, I became unwell. After many hospital appointments, tests and conversations with doctors, it was decided that I needed a full hysterectomy. Just before Christmas 2020, I underwent the operation.
Physically, I recovered well. I was incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by people who cared for me, supported me and lifted me up when I needed it most. Even now, I carry a deep sense of gratitude for the kindness I was shown during that time.
As the physical scars healed, however, a different struggle began to emerge.
A question kept circling in my mind.
Who am I?
At first, I couldn't understand why I felt so unsettled. I had a loving family, a comfortable life and so much to be thankful for. Yet something felt missing.
My children were growing up and becoming more independent. They no longer needed me in the way they once had. Although I never planned to have more children, knowing that the choice had been taken away from me felt surprisingly difficult to accept. It marked the end of a chapter I hadn't quite realised I was still holding onto.
For much of my life, my identity had been wrapped up in the roles I played for other people.
Mother.
Wife.
Sister.
Daughter.
Friend.
Each of those roles is important, but none of them truly answered the question of who I was beneath the titles.
For the first time in my life, I realised I didn't really know.
So I began a journey of self-discovery.
I started exploring mindfulness more deeply. I spent time reflecting on what truly brought me joy. I rediscovered old passions and found new ones. I read books, walked in nature, cooked, painted, wrote, gardened and gradually learned to sit quietly with my thoughts.
Slowly, I began to realise that wellbeing isn't about becoming someone new.
It's about remembering who you were before life became so busy.
It is about reconnecting with the parts of yourself that may have been set aside while you cared for everyone else.
As women, we often spend decades putting others first. We build families, careers, homes and lives around the people we love. Then one day, often during menopause or another major life transition, we find ourselves standing at a crossroads asking:
What do I want from this next chapter?
That question became the foundation of Tenacious.
I didn't create Tenacious because I have all the answers.
I created it because I know what it feels like to be searching for them.
Tenacious is a place for women navigating life's changing seasons. A place to explore mindfulness, movement, nourishing food, restorative sleep, creativity and self-discovery. A place to be encouraged to grow, learn and evolve without the pressure of becoming someone you're not.
Most importantly, it is a reminder that it is never too late to rediscover yourself.
Today, I am still learning. I am still growing. I am still finding new passions and new possibilities. But I no longer worry about having all the answers.
Instead, I trust the journey.
If you have found your way here because you are asking some of the same questions I once asked, please know that you are not alone.
Welcome to Tenacious.
I'm so glad you're here.
